in the character of God whose ways
you may not understand at the time.”
– Oswald Chambers
1. Is there a God?
2. If so, is God good?
How can we have confidence in the character of God?
That’s no small question. So I decided to ask my 15-year-old daughter.
“Simone, I know you believe in God, right?”
“Yeah.”
“So how do you know that God is good?” I asked.
At first, she looked at me like I was trying to ask her a trick question. “No, seriously,” I assured her, “I want to know what you think. Why do you believe that God is good?”
As if this were a no-brainer, she simply responds, “All the good in the world says that there is a God and He is good. If there were no God at all, or if He was not a good God, then all the bad that is in the world right now would be so much worse. Like, double worse.”
Hmph.
I couldn’t have said it any better.

I love the cut & dry no nonsense of your daughter's words. Quite often my children lead me like this too. What joy it brings.
And a child shall lead them…
Well said. Thanks for sharing her words.
(My gift to DH at Christmas was a canvas painting that says “God is Good, All the Time” as we want that to always be the foundation of our home. But is good to reflect on why we believe that.)
GreatBrainIdea: Cut & dry indeed! Thanks for stopping by. It's nice to 'meet' you. (Fun blog title BTW.)
Tami: I hope your new year is off to a great start too!
MY: Almost grown-up babes … so true!
Kathy: Yes, she IS a blessing! 🙂
Miriam: Ooh, have you posted a pic of the canvas painting on your blog? I'd love to see it!

I LOVE this! TRUTH on the tip of her tongue! What a blessing!
I loved this! Like “double worse” – sure enough. Out of the mouths of almost grown-up babes.
Way to go Simone! Perspective is everything, isn't it?
Hope your new year is off to a great start, friend.
